Dear Friend,
First, I want to thank everyone who got out and voted in yesterday’s primary election. Whether you voted for Ned and me, Dan and Nancy, for Democrats or Republicans, your engagement and participation makes a difference and benefits us all.

Last night, I spoke with Nancy Wyman and congratulated her on a hard-fought victory. I have known both Dan Malloy and Nancy Wyman for many years, and I know they will work hard as our next governor and lt. governor to bring new energy and new ideas to the people of Connecticut.

Now it’s time for Democrats to come together. For the next twelve weeks, Dan and Nancy will travel the state, sharing a vision for a better future for Connecticut. A future with more jobs, better schools, improved infrastructure and greater opportunities for everyone.

And when Dan and Nancy win in November – when we elect the first Democratic governor in a generation – they will change business as usual in Hartford, and finally get Connecticut back to work.

Even though the primary election didn’t turn out the way some of us wanted, we all won in a way. I’m proud that our campaign raised important issues like jobs, education, and transportation, and I know Dan and Nancy will work hard to make those central issues in their campaign.

I want to thank my family. To my husband Andy, thank you for always being my biggest supporter and my best friend. And to my children, Amanda, Nate, and Sam, I am so proud of the people you have become. I love you all so much.

I want to thank my staff and all of our wonderful volunteers for working so hard, since January, building this campaign from scratch.

Finally, I want to thank my friend, Ned Lamont, for inviting me on this extraordinary journey across our great state – for asking me to be a full partner in offering a new and better vision for Connecticut.

Together, we will all help Dan and Nancy win in November. Together, we will all get Connecticut working again.

All the best,

Over the course of this summer’s campaign season I’ve been asked many times for my opinion as to whom I support for governor and lieutenant governor in the upcoming Democratic primary on Aug 10. My answer has been consistent — I’m supporting Ned Lamont and Mary Glassman. When I’m asked why, I explain that it’s primarily because of Mary Glassman.

Glassman said that this time around, she feels a stronger identification with the candidate at the top of the ticket.

"We're true partners," Glassman said. "Ned brings the business experience, I bring the municipal experience.'' She said the two have already discussed how, as lieutenant governor, she might pursue her strengths: transportation, education, regional cooperation, and fiscal planning.

Glassman said she has studied other lieutenant governors and was impressed with the way Democrat Barbara O'Brien of Colorado took the lead in securing federal money for her state through the U.S. Department of Education's Race to the Top program. She said Connecticut needs to do a far better job of obtaining federal grants to take some of the pressure off local budgets.

The bitter irony is this measured legislation is under threat of veto by Governor Rell, an initial champion of the Clean Elections Fund. Perhaps she has forgotten the “Pay for Play” days of the Rowland Administration when she served as Lieutenant Governor.
